About the Service
Peer Support is based on lived experience, and all our team have their own mental health experiences. We use this to support others who may be feeling similarly, by holding an open space for discussion and exploration, and signposting to other local services.
Our work is flexible and person-centred, offering up to 8 sessions within a 4-month period. These sessions can take place in the community, online or over the phone.
Who is the service for?
We take requests for support for people who meet the following criteria:
- People aged 17 and over
- Living in Leeds
- Dealing with long-term, moderate to severe mental health difficulties
- Currently accessing primary or secondary care for their mental health
How do I access the service?
We take referrals from primary or secondary care mental health professionals. If you are a professional wishing to make a referral, please contact peersupport@leedsmind.org.uk to check if referrals are currently open.
If you are an individual who meets the criteria, and think you would benefit from our service, please speak to a professional involved in your care about a referral. If you have any further queries, or require support in the referral process, you can contact the Leeds Mind reception on 0113 305 5800.
Our team
At MESMAC we have two Transformation Peer Support workers:
Theo
Theo works in the service on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and has been involved since 2023. In addition to their own lived experience, Theo has worked in various mental health settings across Leeds, and is passionate about person-centred care. Outside of work Theo loves writing, music and nature.
Tereece
Tereece's approach to peer support is informed by her own lived experience of mental health difficulties, working within NHS inpatient mental health settings and her undergraduate background in psychology. She recognises that navigating mental health services can be overwhelming, and how much of a difference can be made by feeling heard and understood when accessing the right support. She takes a warm, collaborative approach, working alongside people to explore challenges, identify strengths and find coping strategies that feel right for them.
In her spare time, Tereece enjoys swimming, colouring and hunting for hidden charity shop gems!
