MESMAC condemns a Sunday Times article by Andrew Gilligan as gutter journalism based on half-truths, rumour and innuendo.

In summary

MESMAC condemns a Sunday Times article by Andrew Gilligan as gutter journalism based on half-truths, rumour and innuendo.

The article in The Sunday Times (04.03.18)  is a disgraceful example of gutter ‘journalism’, even from  a cursory reading of the article it is clear that it is based on half-truths, rumour and innuendo.

The piece was written by Andrew Gilligan, who recently had to make clarification in respect of a disgraceful and inaccurate article that he authored about the Trans+ charity MERMAIDS UK following a complaint to the Independent Press Standards Organisation.  https://www.ipso.co.uk/rulings-and-resolution-statements/ruling/?id=18904-17

This piece purposely distorts the important work and professionalism of our dedicated staff and the expert support they offer to thousands of people year in year out.

We responded to, clarified and rebutted all accusations that The Sunday Times and Gilligan made, Gilligan was at best selective of which facts he chose to include.

We will be referring this matter to IPSO for their guidance.
