Community Development Worker (Drugs & Alcohol) - Rotherham

This is an exciting time to be joining our South Yorkshire team, we are developing new services across the county based on the needs of the communities we work with.

The Drug and Alcohol Development Worker is Rotherham is a real opportunity to shape MESMAC’s substance use work for the future. You’ll working with communities seldom seen in traditional substance services, to increase access through support, and advocacy. You‘ll also be working to increase services’ (including MESMAC) capabilities to offer accessible, acceptable and appropriate s services.   

Overall Aim:

Facilitate service user access to treatment and community resources to increase recovery and social capital, by supporting service users and their support networks within their local community.

Prime Objectives:

  • Support the delivery and increase the availability of substance misuse screening, information and advice, and onwards referral for individuals engaged in MESMAC’s services
  • Ensure that MESMAC service are accessible acceptable and appropriate to people for whom their substance use is a problem.
  • To develop and actively champion a Chemsex pathway, training and support within MESMAC and wider treatment system locally, regionally and nationally as required, including LGBTQ+ services

Main Responsibilities & Duties (list not exhaustive – please refer to the application pack for more details)

  • Carry out triage/screening assessments with service users and to make appropriate referrals.
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies e.g. ROADS and Project 6 to undertake shared assessments, key working and interventions to promote individual service user progression from engagement, through structured treatment to self-sustained recovery.
  • To work closely and collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team MESMAC and externally, providing advice / information to managers and other colleagues.
  • Develop and deliver quality programs and packages of work/ psychosocial interventions that meet local need across both group work and one to one settings.
  • Identify and prevent potential harm to service users and others by following local and organisational safeguarding policy and procedures, including referral to and engagement with relevant safeguarding authorities
  • Promote visible recovery across the service and ensure peer support opportunities are relevant and accessible for service users.
  •  To facilitate the establishment and maintenance of groups/forums that service users to reflect on common concerns and act to meet these.
  • To promote, adhere to and embody our vision, mission and values in all your work.

Salary:  £30,559  per annum for 37 hours per week. 1 year fixed contract with a possibility of a 12 month extension. There is a 5% workplace pension and membership of Paycare (on completion of probationary period. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS with barred lists check. (Work flexibly including evening and weekend working)
