What happens at Testing Times when I come in?

When you arrive you will be asked a few questions about yourself and what service you would like. We can offer an HIV test and/or a Chlamydia & Gonorrhoea pee in a pot screening. This is to make sure that we are able to give you the correct test results and provide you with the best service we can. You don’t have to answer all or any of the questions we ask. You can even give us a false name if you wish.

We want to make sure that you know what having a HIV test means for you, so there are trained workers to talk to you about the test you are about to have, and to answer any questions about HIV and the HIV test you might have. If after the discussion with the worker you still want to go ahead with the test, you are asked to give a pin-prick sample of blood to our nurse. We can give you your results after 20 minutes.

If you haven't received a negative result, the Testing Times team will arrange for you to have further confirmatory tests and help get you an appointment at the sexual health clinic of your choice. Testing Times will help you access local emotional and practical support services, if you want them to.

If you receive a negative result, we can talk to you about why you put yourself at risk and how you might want to manage your risk taking in the future. We can also give you free condoms and water-based lube.
